Who needs a weight gain plan?

Check the cause first

Unexplained weight loss can signal thyroid overactivity, diabetes, gut problems such as coeliac disease, infections or stress. Sadaf reviews your history and labs, and refers you to a doctor when something needs investigating.

Calorie-dense desi foods that help

Food Easy way to add it
Full-cream milk / lassi A glass between meals, with dates or banana
Dates (khajoor) & dried fruit 3–4 dates or a handful of badam/akhrot as a snack
Eggs 2 eggs at breakfast, boiled or as an omelette
Daal, chana, lobia A larger portion at lunch with rice
Peanut butter / desi ghee (measured) 1 teaspoon ghee on roti, or peanut butter on toast
Chicken, fish, mutton A palm-sized portion at 2 meals
Sattu, oats, suji Milk-based breakfasts or homemade shakes

How the plan works

  1. Calculate your current intake and add a planned surplus (often +300–500 kcal/day).
  2. Raise protein to support muscle, alongside resistance exercise where suitable.
  3. Use 5–6 smaller eating occasions if your appetite is small.
  4. Track weight, strength and energy every 2–4 weeks and adjust.

Frequently asked questions

How fast can I gain weight healthily?

About 0.25–0.5 kg a week is a healthy pace for most adults. Faster gain is usually mostly fat. Your plan is adjusted every few weeks based on progress.

Are weight gain powders necessary?

Usually not. Most people can meet their needs with milk, eggs, daal, nuts and dates. A supplement may help when appetite is very low, and Sadaf will advise case by case.

Why can't I gain weight even when I eat a lot?

Many people overestimate how much they eat, skip meals on busy days, or have a high activity level. Thyroid, gut and other medical causes are also checked.
